1st Response (Full course)
Saturday 17th October 2020
(Full first response course)
Venue: Springfield Primary School, Barton Road, Tilehurst, Reading, RG31 5NJ
Full Day First Response
1st Response is Girlguiding's own first aid course. It will train you to provide first aid to members in emergencies - in or outside of your unit meeting place. The course was created specifically for members of Girlguiding and The Scout Association. It is valid for three years. 1st Response can be completed by anyone in a volunteer role within Guiding. This includes Leaders, Young Leaders (14yrs+), Unit Helpers and Unit Occasional Helpers. Leaders in Training (who do not hold a first aid certificate) and Commissioners are required to attend this course.
If you already have a first aid qualification, you may not need to attend our 1st Response course. For your first aid qualification to be considered equivalent, it should:
• be valid
• have involved a training that was at least six hours long
• included training for both adult and child CPR
• covered all other topics in 1st Response training
If you have completed an external course that does not include child or adult CPR, then you should join part of a 1st Response or 1st Response Refresher course which covers this. Alternatively, ask a Trainer to do a one-to-one update for you.
Use the 1st Response course syllabus checklist below to make sure that your external qualification covers the same topics as this training. Then let your Commissioner know so GO can be updated.
The 1st Response course is valid for 3 years from the date it is awarded. After this time period, 1st Response holders or those who have had an external First Aid training can attend a Girlguiding 1st Response Refresher course.
Cost £20.00 (You will be emailed on how to make payment, this is a legitimate unit expense.)
Time: Registration 9.15am, course starts 9.30am to 4pm
a notebook & pen
a camp mug (for your tea/coffee)
your Leadership Qualification book (if appropriate)
a first aid kit if you wish to have it checked
Guiding uniform/wear should be worn but please remember this is an active course where you move around so comfortable trousers should be worn.
