"I learnt to canoe in 1974 with my Ranger Unit at Longridge Centre on the River Thames. I was so taken by the sport that I have canoed and kayaked ever since. I taught canoeing in the Army and once back in civilian life joined Reading Canoe Club where I took on the challenge of redeveloping the club “shed”. I led on the fundraising and redevelopment of the large clubhouse on the banks of the River Thames.
I am known for my long-distance endurance kayaking and has taken part in the Devizes to Westminster 125-mile canoe race many times. I was the second women ever to complete 8 races and thus joining the elite 1000-mile club. As well as a canoe/kayak coach I am also a Bell Boat instructor, I paddleboards and I enjoy sailing and narrow boating too. Watersports have been and continue to be a huge part of my life and I regularly kayak 4-5 times a week in all weathers."
